SOFTBACK Program
SOFT BACK Program: Supporting Our Families Through Breast Cancer with Kindness
The Breathing Room Foundation helps families with all types of cancer however, since the founder Diane Fitzgerald's diagnosis was breast cancer we are concerned with making sure that breast cancer patients are a special focus of our organization. Over the past 4 years about one-third of our families helped have a breast cancer diagnosis. In 2006, we helped approximately 122 families with a breast cancer diagnosis get whatever "breathing room" was necessary for them to fight their disease. We call this cancer support the SOFTBACK program.
The support given through the SOFTBACK program includes financial support, personal assistance including home-cooked meals, housecleaning, childcare, companionship, transportation, and home repairs, as well as referrals to additional support services. The SOFTBACK program is supported by Komen for the Cure and other fundraising efforts.
