From Eileen:
Good Afternoon Everyone! I am so excited to share this amazing day at the new Breathing Room office. We started the afternoon with a group of volunteers from Sightlines (www.sightlones.com), a Facilities Asset Advisors company in Jenkintown. Ten volunteers joined us as part of their corporate service requirement. Tina and I briefly informed them about the programs and support offered to Breathing Room families. We also encouraged them to become involved in the Young BRF Friends social and service events since they match that demographic. Sara, a current recipient shared her cancer journey as well as the valuable support offered by the BRF for her husband and 3 young sons.
Three jobs were presented to the group and they divided up into small work groups. Two volunteers headed to Chalfont to paint the back doors for a woman in breast cancer treatment. Two other young men went to the upstairs offices to install the quarter round floor board molding. The remaining five volunteers headed to the kitchen for a much needed makeover.
The Chalfont family was thrilled with the volunteers who were able to paint the back doors as well as another door. The quarter round is installed with the skill of a master carpenter! The kitchen was sanded, scrubbed and covered with KILZ. Thanks to their creative input, the kitchen color will be “sweet butter” with a possible “mango” accent wall.
During this busy rehab afternoon… we had 2 Jenkintown High School students in the main office preparing the Back to School mailing.
Another Breathing Room family delivered over 100 hoodies to us as part of the “Hoodies from Heaven” Program. Bobby and Kevin are both teenage BRF recipients who have spent countless hours and lengthy hospital stays at CHOP undergoing chemo and surgeries. The boys realized how cold the endless chemo treatments made them and the other kids feel during treatment. These guys decided to collect hoodies to share with other patients at CHOP. They collected over 600 hoodies!!! The BRF was lucky enough to receive over 100 of them to include in the backpacks for our Back to School Program.
The next group of Sightline Volunteers will join us next Tuesday afternoon to complete the kitchen painting. We can’t wait to meet them!
Busy…but fantastic…day! Long email… just wanted to share a great day! The renovation video will soon be up and running on the website. I wanted to include this group of volunteers before posting.
Hope all is well with you.
