Valley Road Run Recap

And the winner is…The Breathing Room Foundation!

More than $45,000 Raised to Ensure No Family Fights Cancer Alone.

A huge thank you to the hundreds of community members that came out for the 16th Annual Valley Road Run this past Sunday in support of the Breathing Room Foundation.  With your help, we were able to raise $46,000 to give families the “breathing room” they need to focus on their battle against cancer.

“Every year I am amazed at how this race brings together so many people that have gone through hardships or are currently struggling through their own challenges, and they still give all they have both out on the race course as well as from their own pockets to make sure other families receive the same help they did,” said Mary Ellen Fitzgerald, Executive Director for the Breathing Room Foundation.

The family-friendly race featured a 5k run and 2-mile walk, with runners ranging in age from 2 years old to 81 years old.  Prizes and medals were awarded to individuals in age groups. However, the top male runner, [perfectpullquote align=”left” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Peter Reilly, finishing in 17 minutes 53 seconds wasn’t running for the prize, but for his mom, who passed away from cancer last November. [/perfectpullquote]

Peter Reilly, finishing in 17 minutes 53 seconds wasn’t running for the prize, but for his mom, who passed away from cancer last November.  Peter is not the only one who came out to honor a loved one. Many runners in support of, or in memory of a loved one, joining efforts with friends and family to make up over 25 teams. One group featured 35 runners, while another team raised an additional $1,256 in donations to help support the mission of the Breathing Room.

Thank you again to all those who came out to support our cause.  It is because of our dedicated community members that we are able to make a difference.  To view your race times, please visit runbucks.com
