Martin Luther King Day of Service Program
The outpouring of support we receive on Martin Luther King Day highlights the spirit of community service behind every Breathing Room volunteer. Whether you gather your school, team, club, corporate group, community, or work on your own, the cards, snack bags, comfort items, and care packages provided to local families fighting cancer makes a difference in their lives. Knowing that they are not alone in their fight is often the greatest gift – and the practical supplies help them on their journey.
BRF at-home service options include several ways to support local families fighting cancer. These service options can be completed and dropped off at the BRF office. In Dr. King’s words, “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” Thank you for sharing your spirit of generosity with the Breathing Room.
- BRF Care Packages: Organize a collection among your family, friends, coworkers or classmates to support our BRF families. Our current needs are cleaning supplies, peanut butter and jelly, mac and cheese, and breakfast cereals.
- BRF Snack Bags: Add three or four individually wrapped snacks with a handmade note to a quart size ziploc type bag. The snacks may include: granola bars, Goldfish, cookies, raisins, pretzels, fruit snacks etc. Your colorful handwritten “Have a Good Day” or “Thinking of You” note will remind our BRF families that we are thinking of them. Please no mints or hard candy.
- Valentine “Share the Love” Program: Create handmade Valentine cards or crafts to share with our families in February. Deadline to the BRF office is Monday, February 6.
