Keep BRF Recipients Supported Over the Summer
Summer Volunteer Opportunities
There’s so much activity and support during the school year – but cancer doesn’t get a summer vacation. As we head into warmer weather, when kids are home from school and families may feel the pressure of cancer on top of existing difficulties like poverty and food insecurity, you can provide a little breathing room to Breathing Room families in many small ways.
We can always use Snack Bags, Care Packages, and other supplies. These can be put together by yourself, with your family, or as a small group. It’s a great activity for kids who may be bored over the summer, and teaches them about helping your neighbors from a young age!
Many of our snack bag donations are provided by groups who primarily meet during the academic year – schools, scouting groups, teams, and more. If you have some spare time and can gather your community or even do a few on your own, Breathing Room families can use your support all year long!
And as we get further into the summer, we’ll be collecting for our Back to School. This is a great summer project for a church, synagogue, or religious group, a remote activity for scouts or teams that want to do something but may not get together all at once, or even for a neighborhood to participate in!
We have one middle school student who has been sharing flyers with her neighborhood every summer, and leaving a collection box on her front porch to collect school supplies. Activities like this make a HUGE difference for Breathing Room families – and we couldn’t do it without you. Putting together 400 backpacks filled with school supplies is no easy feat – but we’re able to do it because of our Breathing Room community.
For questions on snack bags, care packages, Back to School, or any other way to help Breathing Room families, please reach out to Jaci at jaci@breathingroomfoundation.org or (215) 277-1006. Thank you for keeping our families in mind over the summer, and for supporting local families in their fight against cancer!
